The experience of my phone interview
12 月17 日晚10：05，由五个洋教授组成的电话面试团打电话过来，下面是对话的基本经
过(历时35分钟),，希望对大家有用：
P1: Are you ****, &*%$@@$$ (Speak very quickly)
I: Yeah, it is me. You must be professor ****, how are you?
P: Fine, &*%$@@$$,?
I: Dear Professor, Could you speak it a little louder for my phone line is
not very clear.
P: Speak Loudly? Ok, &*%$@@$$.? (Faint, I can’t understand yet)
I: Just tell him sth about my major because I can’t hear clearly what he
had said..
P2: Could you tell me sth about your accomplishments?
I: I have successfully been a Lab Assistant to develop a new kind of static
explosive and I had been a RA for my current professor.
P: tell me sth about the explosive.
I: &&^^**$$ ( Faint again, I speak very bad at that time because I know few
words about explosive)
P:Do you have any publishable articles?
I: To be honest with you, I have no article yet, but……………
P: Good.
P3: What are you doing now?
I: I am working on the project……….( Faint again, I have a wrong
pronuciation of “project”)
P: Have you learnt some courses about Chemistry and Physics?
I: I had learnt some courses about them during my undergraduate courses:
general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and some experimental courses.
P: Do you have learnt the biochemistry? Because my current projects need
the knowledge about biochemistry.
I: To be honest with you, I haven’t learnt yet, but I can audit that
course or teach by myself.
P: Do you have some questions?
I: Climate of IOWA?
P: Very hot in Summer and Very cold in winter.%^&****
I: Good, it just like the climate of Wuhan. But In spring and Autumn, Wuhan
is a great place to visit and welcome to Wuhan.
P: Wuhan?
I: The place I currently studied.
P: Oh, Ha,Ha….
P4: Do you learn the course “ Mathematical Staticstics”?
I: Yes, I am just working on it.
P: What is mainly about?
I: It is a advanced course mainly on research. For graduate student.
P: research what?
I: Oh, a……(****! I can’t speak it very clearly!)
P: No response.
I: It is hard for me to express my ideals freely at this time, can I reply
you later in an e-mail?
P: Ok.
P5: Why do you choose Iowa?
I: I have three reasons, …….
P: Good reasons! Then tell you what do you want to do in our dept? Do you
have any specially interested faculty members?
I: I am very …………..
P: $%^&&*(() (I can’t understand) Agricilture.
I: Agricilture.?
P: $%^&&*((
I: As to agriculture, I know it very well. I came from rural and China is a
big country for agriculture.
P: Do you have any questions?
I: some, first,……Second……...

小结：
教授们讲话很快，刚开始时5分钟真是什么都听不懂，不过，只要平静下来，一会而你也会适
应的。电话完后，我感觉不是很好，给自己打60分，不过从打完电话后，他们给我发的邮件
来看，他们说我说的还不错，应该拿全奖有希望！但愿如此吧.
