answers to FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1 about financial statement

generally speaking
We donot need to fill in this form
and even we donot need to send them back to the US schools

if you still worry about the completence of your application materials
then you can send this form unfilled back and attach a letter as below

To whom it may concern
Because i have not enough money to afford the living and studying cost
there in your school , nor can i find a sponsor who can provide me with
enough fund. I leave this form blank.

(NOTE: I did write such a letter, but my schoolmates think it foolish )

also if you apply for MBA program
then you should have enough money and should get the Bank Statement

2 the seal of the transcript

Usually your Chinese school should have official format for the transcript
that is you cannot change anything in that transcript
cannot add so-called GPA in it
and after put the transcript in the envelope
be sure to get official stamps on both the seals

3 how to write RL and get the signature easily
well, if your prof donot know Englsih and allow you to write RL yourself
and then he will give you the signature
you can do as follows :
a. type the RL into the computer || print it out || get the signature of
your professors.
b. fill those RL forms in by using ACROBAT (full version not reader!!!) ||
print out || prof sign it
c if you donot know how to use ACROBAT
then do as what I did :

打印一定数量的信密封, 找老师签字(确保老师知道他推荐过你)
推荐表格请同学填写.签字
然后再把推荐信打印,请同学签字(为了保证字体的一致!!!, 另外找三个不同的同学写三封
不同的信呵呵)
把推荐信和表格放在一个信封,密封相应的同学签字

I didnot try a part of the information in this post
so maybe there are some website not wroking well
or some FTP are only open in a short period of time
so try as more as you can to download ACROBAT (4.0 is enough for us)

5 SSN... and Alien Number ......
we donot have them now
so donot be disturbed by them
leave it blank if you have to fill it in

6 GPA calculation
we are alsways worried about the GPA
maybe the most important factor towards our application

how to calculate ?
the answer is
we donot need to calculate ourselves
even if you calculate it , it is useless
the US school have their own policy about it
and surely they know what is the difference between 60 and 90 on a 100
scale
maybe you have to give one when you fill in the application form
then use this formula average score * 4.0 /100
I think it is the best method for us

7 associate/assistant/full professor
assiatant prof
they are useless to us
visiting prof are no use at all

associate prof and full prof are important in any dept

I have no idea either
waiting for others' help.....

10 关于寄材料
you can send all the materials to the admissions office
but those such as RL be sure to write the address of the Dept clearly
so those the officers in admissions office will deliver them to the dept
for you with your other materials

11 in what capacity || how long // how well you know this applicant
the model is

I have kinown the applicant for ------------(length of time in
months/years), as[] an undergraduate student, [] graduate student, [] other
(please specify)------

I have served as the applicant's [] department chair, [] major advisor, []
