| 美在校国际学生已经开始加入'Verification System' International Education Services Student Data Verification Purpose of the Verification System Beginning in January 2003, US educational institutions are required to send international student and scholar information to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) through a computer system known as SEVIS. IES will send data for each F-1 and J-1 student (sponsored by XX) and their F- 2/J-2 dependents. In order to ensure that the information we send is accurate, we need you to verify your biographical and academic information 1. each semester during schedule adjustment (the first 1-10 days of class)* AND 2. each time the information changes. *As we are working under a tight deadline to implement this system, this semester the login period for the verification page will be 10/1/02 to 11/1/02. All F-1 and J-1 students (sponsored by UM) need to login and check their information during this time period. F-2/J-2's will not login even if they are attending classes at UM; dependent information will be verified by the F-1/J-1 visa holder. The purpose of the verification page is to: Collect address in home country (address outside US). This information is not in our database but is required by SEVIS. Identify corrections that need to be made in Name (First, Middle, Last), country of citizenship, country of legal permanent residency, city of birth, date of birth, etc. for student/scholars and their dependents. This information should match passport information. Update your local address and email address. US address is required in SEVIS. It cannot be a P.O. Box or an office address. You will be taken to Testudo's address screen. Please update the "local address" field, your email address, and phone number. It is vital that we have a means to contact you concerning your immigration status. NEW: Frequently Asked Questions About the Verifica What is the purpose of the verification page? Beginning in January 2003, US educational institutions are required to send international student and scholar information to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) through a computer system known as SEVIS. IES will send data for each F-1 and J-1 student (sponsored by UM) and their F- 2/J-2 dependents. In order to ensure that the information we send is accurate, we need you to verify your biographical and academic information. Specifically, we need to: Collect address in home country or country of permanent residence (address outside US). This information is not in our database but is required by SEVIS. Identify corrections that need to be made in Name (First, Middle, Last), country of citizenship, country of legal permanent residency, city of birth, date of birth, etc. for student/scholars and their dependents. This information must match passport information exactly. A U.S. address is required in SEVIS. You will be directed to update your local address in Testudo. Do not use a P.O. Box or an office address. Please also update your email address, and phone number. It is vital that we have a means to contact you concerning your immigration status. Provide a way for you to see what IES will be sending to SEVIS. In addition to the information on the verification screen, we need to notify SEVIS of your enrollment each semester and the completion or termination of your studies. At the bottom of the verification page, IES will add these reporting fields as we develop our SEVIS system. For now, we have listed Enrollment Status (this should say Enrolled Full-time Fall 2002 or enrolled part-time with approval from IES, or on Optional Practical Training. If it says ?art-time without approval?you should contact an advisor in IES right away about your situation.) Last Verified on ?date ?informs you of when we last received verification information from you. Who is required to participate? All F-1 and J-1 students with I-20/DS-2019 forms issued by University of Maryland including students on Optional Practical Training (F visa) or Academic Training (J visa) following completion of their studies. Students who do not need to participate at this time: Students under the sponsorship of other F-1 schools or J-1 sponsoring agencies (such as LASPAU, IIE, USAID.) Your host F-1 institution or J-1 sponsor will send your information to SEVIS. Contact them for more information. Students under other visa types. F-2, J-2, (F-1 or J-1 will update your information) H-1, H-4, G-4, etc are not currently required to participate in SEVIS. How often should I check the verification page? Each semester, IES is required to confirm the enrollment of each F-1 and J- 1 student under our sponsorship to INS through SEVIS. We must have a US address (not a PO Box or business address) and a permanent address outside the US a student to confirm registration. We have a deadline to report this information (30 days from the end of schedule adjustment). Consequently, we are requiring each student to login each semester during schedule adjustment to update address and contact information and to review all other information for accuracy. In addition, when you change information identified in one of the areas listed on the verification page, please update it on the web or come by IES to update it in person. This information is easier to update via the web page: US address (local address in Testudo) US phone number (Testudo) Email address (Testudo) Permanent Address Outside the US (Verification Page) This information will require additional documentation to be submitted to IES. You can make the request over the web or in person in IES: Change in name (due to marriage, divorce, corrections, etc) Adding or removing dependents from your I-20/DS-2019 Change in major Change in financial support 2002-10-12 08:00 PM
