test today
I took the test today. The score is 700, Math 50, Verbal 3*. I need to take one
more test. The last time I took GRE was in 1993 before I came to US for a
graduate degree in science area. I work full time and the job is very demanding.
My preparation for GMAT is too shaky. After I get home from the job which
requires me to stand in the lab physically at least 6 hours a day in addtion to
2 hours using my brain for intellectual work, all I want to do is to eat and
sleep. Starting from May, I began to study from 9 to 12 in the night. I did one
time the SC and CR in the OG book and took one PP test and one Princeton test.
I was not confident at all to go to today's test. My hand shaked for at least 5
minutes when I typed the first essay. After the first essay, I calmed down. I
have to thank CD for the math JJ. I did JJ for July and August in the last two
days. I finished the math 16 minutes ahead. In Verbal, 4 SC came first, then 2
boldface CR,
then a RC with 3 questions. Totally 4 RC, three with 3 questions, one with 4
questions. I met one RC JJ about Anti-suffrage, one boldface CR about “ to
determine the largeness of fragment, sulfur in the atmosphere but not in the
fragment, the fragment is too big to be totally burned” , and one CR about the
cattle of US. I finished the Verbal 0.5 minutes ahead. Because I did not
practice the CAT much before the test, I had no idea how to control the pace.
Some questions I spent a lot of time, some very few. Actually I was very high
during the verbal session and thought I can get a better score. After the score
came out, I realized I need restudy Verbal and re-summarize certain checklists
according to ETS’s logic rather than mine. I also need to do more CAT tests.
SC tests more for the logical relations between the underlined area with other
areas, the use of “as” or “like” started phrase and the noun phrase. I have a
check lists for the Sc, but after the test I don't feel it is the logic thinking
of the ETS. I need to do more exercise for SC. Boldface CR is troublesome. Some
of them are transitional conclusions for the first part of the argument and then
become the evidence for the final conclusion. But there are always two choices
confusing me. I am not prepared for such questions at all. Is there any material
talking about Boldface CR and recent SC checklist?
AA: invest in a solar energy company because cost for equipment drops, new
technology is developing and new CEO is from another successful company.
AI: Preserving natural environment by individual or government.
I think I did one question wrong in Math(can’t remember the details)
product A costs material at least $ n1, sale price is $p1; product B costs
material at least $n2, sale price is $p2. Total amount of A and B is greater
than 5000 ?
a. A and B total costs for material at least (at most?) X
b. A and B total sale is Y.
One SC:
Government purchased sth for some student to use to replace sth
to use to replace
to use in place of
… them …
