Community colleges, formerly known as junior colleges, are 2-year higher education institutions that provide postsecondary courses leading to certificate and associate degree as a pathway to a four-year degree. Alaska is home to a variety of community colleges, such as Alaska Vocational Technical Center, University of Alaska Anchorage, and Kenai Peninsula College. Each of these colleges offers students the opportunity to further their education with a variety of courses. The Alaska Vocational Technical Center provides students with the opportunity to pursue vocational and technical training in areas such as health care, business, construction trades, and more. University of Alaska Anchorage offers students the chance to pursue degrees in fields such as accounting, engineering, nursing, and social work. Lastly, Kenai Peninsula College provides courses in areas such as hospitality management, criminal justice administration, and information technology support services. All three colleges also offer online classes for those unable to attend classes on campus.
