The climate of Bagan

According to citypopulationreview, Bagan, formerly known as one of the capitals of Burma under the name Pagan, is a small city in the central western part of the country. The city was founded in the mid-ninth century and was long the capital of the Pagan Empire. This realm was one of the most important areas of Theravada Buddhism. There are still a striking number of (thousands) temples in the region and Bagan is a popular place of pilgrimage for Theravada Buddhists. The main reason that most of these temples have been spared is the fact that the inhabitants left the city in the thirteenth century before the Mongols had a chance to conquer the city. Because they were able to continue immediately, the city was largely spared from looting and destruction. Bagan has a tropical savanna climate, a climate known for being the driest of all tropical climates. The main difference with the other tropical climates is that the rainy season in Bagan is much shorter. This rainy season lasts from May to October and has its peak in September. The other months of the year are virtually bone dry. During the rainy season, the average daytime temperature is at its highest, temperatures well above thirty degrees Celsius are the rule. This, in combination with the high precipitation figures, ensures that the average humidity is particularly high during this period. Nevertheless, the rains ensure that the average daytime temperatures are somewhat tempered, so that there is less chance of extremely high temperatures of more than forty degrees Celsius. During the drier periods, the average daytime temperature is just below thirty degrees Celsius. This is logically also the most popular period for tourists to visit the city. This is the best time to visit one of the many temples in the Bagan area.
