According to ejiaxing, Sitka Borough, Alaska is located on the western coast of Baranof Island in southeast Alaska. It was originally inhabited by the Tlingit people and has a long history of trading with other Native Alaskan groups. In 1799, the Russian American Company established a fur trading post in the area which marked the beginning of European settlement in Sitka. The town quickly grew as more Russians arrived and began to develop the economy of the area. In 1867, Sitka was purchased by the United States from Russia for $7.2 million and officially became part of Alaska Territory. In 1906, Sitka was incorporated as a city and served as Alaska’s capital until 1910 when it was moved to Juneau. The area continued to grow over time and in 1975 it became an organized borough within Alaska’s unified local government system. Today, Sitka is home to approximately 8,700 residents who are primarily employed in fishing, canning, logging and tourism industries. The city also serves as a major port for cruise ships traveling throughout southeast Alaska and offers visitors many attractions including Totem Park which showcases some of Sitka’s traditional Tlingit culture and art. With its rich cultural history and natural beauty, Sitka remains an important destination for both locals and tourists alike. Sitka Borough, Alaska is served by two school districts – Sitka School District and New Brockton School District. The Sitka School District consists of one elementary school, one middle school and one high school which offers a variety of advanced placement courses in various subjects. The district also provides a wide range of extracurricular activities such as athletics, drama clubs, student government and more. Additionally, the district has educational programs for students who are at-risk or have special needs to ensure that all students receive a quality education regardless of their individual circumstances. The New Brockton School District is comprised of four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school which offers advanced placement courses in various subjects.
