According to ejiaxing, Sitka Borough, Alaska is located on the western coast of Baranof Island in southeast Alaska. It was originally inhabited by the Tlingit people and has a long history of trading with other Native Alaskan groups. In 1799, the Russian American Company established a fur trading post in the area which marked the beginning of European settlement in Sitka. The town quickly grew as more Russians arrived and began to develop the economy of the area.
