According to ejiaxing, Bulloch County, Georgia is a county located in the southeastern region of the state. The county was established on February 8, 1796 from parts of Screven and Effingham counties. It was named for Archibald Bulloch, who served as the first president of the Provincial Congress and as the first governor of Georgia. The county seat is Statesboro, which was founded in 1803. In its early days, Bulloch County was mostly rural and agricultural with cotton being its main crop. In 1819, a small community called Portal was established near Statesboro. This community eventually became known as Portal City and it is still an important part of Bulloch County today. In addition to agriculture, Bulloch County has had several industries throughout its history including lumber mills, turpentine stills, brickyards, and gristmills. In the late 1800s and early 1900s sawmills began to be built in the area which helped fuel the local economy with wood products for construction projects throughout Georgia and beyond. In 1912, Georgia Normal & Industrial College (now known as Georgia Southern University) opened in Statesboro which brought an influx of students to the area and helped spur economic growth in Bulloch County. In addition to education opportunities provided by GSU, there are also numerous healthcare facilities located within Bulloch county which provide medical services to residents throughout southeast Georgia. Today, Bulloch County remains largely rural with a population of around 70,000 people spread out over 447 square miles. Agriculture continues to be an important industry in Bulloch County with cotton being one of its primary crops along with peanuts, corn and soybeans. There are also numerous small businesses located throughout the county providing goods and services to local residents as well as visitors coming through town on their way to nearby Savannah or other attractions in southeast Georgia such as Jekyll Island or St Simons Island Beach State Park. Bulloch County, Georgia is home to a variety of public schools that serve the educational needs of its 70,000 residents. The Bulloch County School System (BCSS) is the public school system in Bulloch County and it consists of 16 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, 3 high schools and an alternative school. The BCSS also has a Pre-K program that serves students at 7 different locations throughout the county. The BCSS is committed to providing quality education to all students in Bulloch County and they strive to ensure that all students have access to a safe learning environment with qualified teachers and up-to-date technology. The BCSS is also dedicated to preparing students for college or career readiness through rigorous academics, extracurricular activities, and community service projects. These specialized programs provide students with opportunities to explore their interests in a more focused manner while still receiving quality instruction from experienced teachers. The BCSS also focuses on creating an environment where all students can thrive regardless of their background or abilities. The BCSS does this by offering special education services that are tailored specifically for each student’s individual needs as well as English Language Learner services for those who are not native English speakers.
