According to ejiaxing, Decatur County, Indiana is located in the southeast corner of the state and has a rich history that dates back to its formation in 1822. The county was named after Commodore Stephen Decatur who was an American naval hero during the War of 1812. Decatur County was primarily a farming county for much of its history but has also been home to various industries such as manufacturing, coal mining, and timber production. The county’s population grew rapidly during the 19th century due to migration from other states and counties as well as immigration from Europe. During this period, several towns were established in Decatur County including Greensburg, St. Paul, and Westport. Today, Decatur County remains a vibrant community with a population of around 25,000 people who enjoy its rural scenery and small-town charm while still being connected to larger cities like Indianapolis via highways and rail lines. The county is home to numerous attractions including museums dedicated to local history as well as outdoor activities like fishing or camping on Lake Santee or visiting one of the many parks located throughout the area. Decatur County is home to seven school districts, each providing a unique educational experience for the area’s students. The largest district is Southeast Decatur County Schools which serves over 6,000 students in grades K-12 and has five elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. Other districts in the county include North Decatur Schools which educates around 1,500 students and has three elementary schools and one junior/senior high school; Adams Central Community Schools which educates over 2,000 students; Southwestern Schools with its two elementary schools and one junior/senior high school; Switzerland County Schools with its four elementary schools and one high school; West Central School District with its three elementary schools and one junior/senior high school; and East Central School District with its four elementary schools and one junior/senior high school. Each of these districts strive to provide a quality education to their students by offering core curriculum as well as additional elective classes such as art, music, physical education, foreign language, technology education, business education, family consumer science classes, career technical education classes such as automotive technology or culinary arts. In addition to these core classes each district also offers extracurricular activities such as sports teams which compete at the local level or participate in state tournaments.
