According to ejiaxing, Jefferson County, Oregon is located in the central part of the state and was named after President Thomas Jefferson in 1847. The county was originally home to the Kalapuya Native American tribe before settlers began to arrive in the early 1800s. The first settlers were farmers and cattle ranchers who built homesteads along the banks of the Deschutes River. In 1854, gold was discovered near what is now known as Gold Hill, and hundreds of prospectors flocked to Jefferson County. The gold rush lasted until about 1860 when most of the miners had left in search of more gold elsewhere. After this time, farming and ranching remained an important part of Jefferson County’s economy. In 1885, a railroad connecting Bend, Oregon to Portland opened up new opportunities for growth within Jefferson County. This allowed for increased transportation of goods and services throughout the region which helped to boost local businesses and industry. In addition, new towns such as Madras were established during this time period which further contributed to economic growth within Jefferson County.
