According to ejiaxing, Platte County, Wyoming is located in the southeastern corner of the state and is named after the North Platte River which runs through it. The county was formed in 1911 from parts of Laramie and Carbon Counties. It has an area of about 1,788 square miles and a population of just over 8,000 people. The first settlers to arrive in Platte County were ranchers who came to take advantage of the rich grazing land along the river. The county was originally part of the Dakota Territory before it became part of Wyoming Territory in 1868. In 1887, it became part of Wyoming when it achieved statehood. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Platte County saw an influx of immigrants from Europe who came to work on the local farms and ranches. During this time, many small towns were established throughout the county including Wheatland, Chugwater, Glendo and Guernsey. The first major industry in Platte County was coal mining which began in 1885 when a coal mine opened near Glendo. This quickly led to other mining operations as well as other industries such as ranching and farming which are still important today. In recent years, Platte County has seen an increase in tourism due to its proximity to several national parks including Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park which are both located nearby. The county also offers a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling due to its mountainous terrain. Platte County is home to a number of historic sites including Fort Laramie National Historic Site which was established by General William Laramie in 1849 as a trading post for fur trappers along with an army outpost for protection against hostile Native American tribes. Today, Fort Laramie is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a reminder of the area’s rich history.
